Today’s post will be a short one as there is not much to say but the obvious:
Wind and Water: Online Battles is on Steam Greenlight!
We are looking to put a final period on the development for W&W by bringing it to Steam and then moving on to other projects — namely, Chosen, Little Ninja, and other joint proof of concepts that we have developed over the years.
Check out our Steam Greenlight page and vote for us!
Why W&W Online?
W&W was meant to be played as a Versus-style Arcade Puzzle, however, online netplay was delayed since it would have been hard to develop without a platform, and that’s why are aiming for Steam, with a bigger user-base, as a supporting platform.
The Dreamcast release has given W&W a boost, enough to make us realize that Online Battles is the cherry on the cake. Tests for online mode started a few years ago with success, and it will not be too much work to finish it.
(Oh, and for those who purchased W&W before or wish to purchase it for the Dreamcast, W&W Online will be FREE for you! If we get through the Greenlight phase, we will be handing out Keys for Early Access :) )
Versus and Online Multiplayer Revamp
With players playing over 50 hours, we never realized the possibilities that W&W could bring! The Versus mode was not designed for such a hardcore style of play, so we will be revamping the multi-player modes, adding an all-new Online Mission Mode.
The Future of Yuan Works
W&W was our first commercial title and, in a sense, we chose to create a hardcore game in a very niche genre, which put us in a tight spot.
We understand that, and that’s why we need your support! We want to bring the love of making games into more known and popular genres, without forgetting about our retro consoles (which fewer and fewer developers support as time passes). Both Yuan-Hsi and Yuan-Hao have limited time with their day jobs and while Yuan-Hsi has time to produce art for different projects, programming-wise, Yuan-Hao has to choose between juggling different projects or finishing W&W once and for all. The latter is what we chose to do.
As we said, our time is limited, and the best way you can help us is by voting for us, sharing the news on Twitter, Facebook, forums that you belong to, anywhere! And, if you love our game, join our discussion on Discord and to help us beta test.
We also understand that W&W was not meant for everyone and if you have any feedback, please also do let us know! This is incredibly important for our growth. We are adding a bunch of new features, content, and improvements on gameplay, graphics, and music to the new version.
Help us make our small dream a reality! :)
